Samsung Has Sold 1 Million Galaxy Fold Smartphones To Date

The Samsung Galaxy Fold was launched not too long ago and it seems that it has already enjoyed some success. This is according to Samsung Electronics President Young Sohn, who during TechCrunch Disrupt Berlin, revealed that the company has managed to sell as many as 1 million units of the smartphone to date.

Sohn also went on to explain Samsung’s process of releasing products to get feedback, feedback that they would never have gotten had they kept the phone in the lab. When asked by TechCrunch’s Matt Burns if the company felt comfortable selling what was essentially a beta device for $2,000, Sohn replied in the affirmative, pointing towards the sales numbers as justification.

To be fair, as with all new types of products and technology, there are bound to be issues with it. Samsung’s decision to release it to the public did definitely help highlight some of those issues, issues that might have not been picked up on had the company kept it in its lab as a prototype. Sure, some might argue it is unfair for the company to charge that much for a beta product, but at the end of the day, it’s up to customers if they want to spend their money on it.

Samsung has been rumored to launch a new Galaxy Fold in 2020, and hopefully the mistakes learnt this round will not make an appearance in the next model.
