Apple made huge claims when they announced their new M1 chipset. While “impressive”, many initial reactions all suggested that these claims were rather vague as Apple did not really dive into specifics and showed off graphs and charts that did not really have any context, leading many to wonder if the new M1 chipsets could live up to the company’s claims.
We’ve seen benchmarks that seem to suggest that they can, but in case you’re more of a “see it to believe it” kind of person, the folks at MacRumors have put together a video which shows off the kind of speeds and performance that you might be able to get from the new M1 chips. The video puts the M1 13-inch MacBook Pro against its Intel-based 13-inch MacBook Pro, and the results speak for themselves.
For example, transfer speeds on the new M1 chips are much faster compared to the Intel MacBook Pro, which might be important for professionals editing huge image, video, or audio files. Then there is also performance, where the M1 managed to open 50 applications without any issue, while the Intel-based MacBook Pro struggled and you could see it stutter quite visibly.
Apps like Final Cut Pro also seemed to open almost instantly on the M1, where the Intel version took a little bit longer. Exporting 4K videos also took about 5 minutes on the M1 MacBook Pro, while the Intel MacBook Pro took an extra 2 minutes. All in all, it seems that there are many things to love about the new M1 chipsets, but only time and additional real world usage will tell if this is the right direction Apple is headed.
