Twitter Testing New Shopping Feature For Livestreams

In parts of the world, such as Asia, selling and advertising products over livestream is actually a pretty popular activity. This is where the seller interacts with their viewers (customers) and talks about a product, demonstrates it, and then sells it. It almost has a home shopping vibe to it which many seem to like.

It seems that Twitter is hoping to cash in on the popularity of such activities as the company has announced that they will be testing out a shopping feature for its livestreams. This means that instead of the seller having to use a separate platform to handle sales or directly deal with customers to confirm their orders, Twitter will place banners and tabs in livestreams so that customers who are interested in a product can click on it to make their purchase.

According to Twitter, “People naturally come to Twitter during major cultural events. Livestreaming on Twitter gives businesses the power to engage with their most influential fans, and adding the ability to shop into this experience is a natural extension to attracting and engaging with receptive audiences.”

The company will be kicking off their Live Shopping test in a collaboration with Walmart on the 28th of November, 2021 at 7pm ET. The event will be hosted by singer, songwriter, and dancer Jason Derulo who will be showing off various electronics, home goods, clothing, and more.
