Apple’s 2020 iPhone Could Use Qualcomm’s Ultrasonic Fingerprint Reader

Ever since Apple ditched Touch ID in favor of Face ID, some have been wondering if perhaps one day Apple could be bringing the feature back. If the rumors are true, that could happen in 2020 as the company has been said to include both Face ID and Touch ID into its iPhones, where Touch ID could finally exist as an in-display sensor.

Now according to a couple of reports from Economic Daily News, they are corroborating those previous claims, except that in this instance, they are saying that the fingerprint readers in the 2020 iPhones could actually be made from Qualcomm. As some of you know, Qualcomm has developed its own in-display fingerprint sensors that companies such as Samsung are using.

It has been suggested that the 2020 iPhones could be using said sensor, but an improved version of it. We’re not sure what kind of improvements we could be looking at, but presumably it will avoid some of the pitfalls of the earlier iterations of the sensor which Samsung had encountered.

In any case, it’s probably best to take it with a grain of salt for now but it’s starting to look like Touch ID could indeed be making a return next year. Is that something you are looking forward to, or do you think that Face ID is already more than sufficient?
