Another Report ‘Confirms’ Periscope Camera For Future iPhone

Last week we reported that a rumor had suggested that for future iPhones, Apple could introduce a periscope folding camera. This would be an internal design that will allow for the iPhone to achieve even greater optical zoom distances. This is more ideal than digital zoom which is basically a close-up crop of an image.

Of course, it’s hard to take these rumors seriously sometimes, but  it’s starting to feel like it might be true. This is because there is a new report from The Elec that essentially echoes the previous rumor’s claims. The report claims that Apple is looking into using SEMCO periscope lenses for future iPhones and that it might debut in 2022 or possibly 2023.

With the inclusion of this periscope lens, it would allow the iPhone to achieve 10x optical zoom, which is pretty much double of what the current iPhone 12 Pro Max is capable of achieving. For those who are unfamiliar, zoom is actually a pretty useful photography tool. It allows you to tighten up your composition and bring things you want into the frame and give it the attention it deserves.

It is also great for portraits because typically, you want a tight and close-up shot when taking portraits. It can also be useful for landscape photography to help you focus on certain parts of the scenery. Other handset makers have in the past also released phones with pretty long zoom lenses, so Apple would not necessarily be the first to do so.
