It’s not hard to see why getting into app development seems like it could be a lucrative business. This is because according to the folks at Sensor Tower, based on their data and estimates, it has been suggested that iOS and Android users spent a combined total of $400 million on apps during Christmas alone.
If you thought that the global pandemic would have impacted the economy in a negative way, and it has, it seems that the app market is immune from it. The data suggests that the $400 million spending on apps is actually a 34.5% year-over-year growth from the $300 million back in 2019.
Their data also found that mobile gaming contributed to a good bulk of the revenue generated by apps, where it is said to account for 27% of the total spent during Christmas. It is also an increase from the previous year where consumers spent about $232.4 million, versus this year where consumers spent $295.6 million on games.
That being said, it shouldn’t be surprising that we are spending more on apps than ever. With a lot of us being stuck at home and being unable to travel due to the coronavirus, many are finding alternative ways of keeping themselves entertained.
