You Can Now Stream Apple Music Directly From Google’s Smart Speakers

Given that Google owns its own music streaming service and how they view Apple as a rival, it’s actually interesting to see how Google’s smart speakers powered by Google Assistant, along with their smart displays, can now stream Apple Music directly from them. This is according to a recent update on Google’s blog.

According to Google, “Get ready to jam: You can now ask Google Assistant on Google Nest and other Assistant-enabled smart speakers and displays to play all the music you love on Apple Music. Starting today, Apple Music is rolling out to Google Assistant-enabled devices like Nest Audio, Nest Hub Max, Nest Mini, and more. Apple Music subscribers can search and play songs (more than 70 million!), albums and playlists—all ad-free—just by using their voice.”

To be fair, it makes sense that Google would want users to be able to stream all kind of music through their speakers as it would encourage adoption of their hardware. In a way, it also makes Apple kind of look bad as the company’s HomePod and HomePod mini speakers are still quite limited compared to the competition.

Support for Apple Music will be rolling out in markets such as the UK, UK, France, Germany, and Japan, presumably with more markets planned for the future.
