Samsung Galaxy Unpacked Officially Scheduled (Hint: Expect Foldables)

Samsung has made it official: the next “Galaxy Unpacked” event will stream LIVE on August 11, 2021, at 10 am EDT in the form of a live stream. Of course, if you subscribe to Ubergizmo, you already knew that.

However, what is unofficial is that we expect the 2021 Folding phones to be announced there, according to pre-launch leaks.

For example, the FCC has recently approved the new Samsung S Pen and pretty much confirmed its compatibility with the Galaxy Z Fold 3. We reviewed the initial Galaxy Fold and the second-generation Galaxy Z Fold 2 and were impressed by the improvements.

Since then, Samsung was vindicated in its original design choices as Huawei’s second-generation foldable effectively copied Samsung’s hinge design. Huawei’s first concept was beautiful, but Samsung had the foresight to spot the foldable reality: exposing the screen at all times may not be a great idea in practice.

The Z Fold 3 is expected to have a 7.6-inch display, and with the S Pen support, many observers expect it to replace the Galaxy Note series, one of the most popular phone franchises. On the surface, it seems logical, but I would argue that the Z Fold 3 is not a drop-in replacement of the Galaxy Note. We’ll see if what Samsung does soon enough.

Along with a potential Z Fold 3, we could (should!) see a new Galaxy Z Flip 3 as well. The original Galaxy Z Flip was a masterpiece that only got better with time. The good news is that the Z Flip 3’s price could be a bit lower than people expect but not “cheap” by any means.

Fans can also start checking the “Next Galaxy” reservation page to get in the virtual line as early as possible. Samsung is offering extra special offers over there.

See you on August 11, 2021, at 10 am EDT for more details, and here’s the official teaser in the meantime:
